Not A Classic County Night For 48th Annual CMA Awards

Last night’s broadcast of the 48th Annual Country Music Association Awards showed signs of the state of flux that is the genre of Country Music. A notable point included the physical absence of one of its biggest stars, Taylor Swift, who has held the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for the past three weeks with what critics are calling her Country kiss-off single “Shake It Off.” There was also a few seemingly musical mismatches, including a Meghan Trainor / Miranda Lambert duet on a non-country “All About That Bass” and an Ariana Grande performance with Little Big Town. One TV critic even made not of the lack of ‘loud male rocking’ Country sound for the broadcast that is the top of the charts for regular radio.

  1. The show was alright. Country music is a little weird right now anyway. Wish we could get more George Jones and Loreta Lynn.
