New York City Will Ban Styrofoam July 1st

What started as the extreme measures of Mayor Michael Bloomberg seem to be containing under Mayor Bill de Blasio. De Blasio announced today that all plastic-foam containers and packaging will be banned from New York City as of July 1. The ban comes from a law passed in December 2013 that gave officials a year to determine whether EPS could be recycled in a safe, environmental effective and economically feasible matter. New York’s Department of Sanitation determined it cannot. Oddly enough, the New York State Restaurant Association earlier criticized possible Styrofoam bans as expensive and unproductive, but now seems to offer full support to Mayor de Blasio.
