John Grisham Walks Back ‘White Guy’ Child Porn Remarks After Twitter Explosion

Best-selling author John Grisham apologized today for remarks he made about overly harsh prison sentences regarding child pornography. Letting the original quote speak for itself, Grisham was doing an interview to promote his new novel, Gray Mountain, and said, “We have prisons now filled with guys my age. Sixty-year-old white men in prison who’ve never harmed anybody, would never touch a child. But they got online one night and started surfing around, probably had too much to drink or whatever, and pushed the wrong buttons, went too far and got into child porn. These are people who haven’t hurt anybody. They deserve some type of punishment, whatever, but ten years in prison?” After a few hours of not so kind words coming his way via Twitter, Grisham released in a statement on his website that said, “Anyone who harms a child for profit or pleasure, or who in any way participates in child pornography–online or otherwise–should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.”
